SHAWNEE CITY COUNCIL MEETING
November 24, 2025
You can stream the full City Council meeting at the link below! If you don't have time to watch, here's my quick recap.
Tonight’s council meeting was extremely brief with only a few routine administrative items. One member of the public spoke during Business from the Floor - Matt McQueeny, owner of Rize N Shine, was very upset about upcoming closures to Midland Drive. He says his restaurant lost nearly half a million dollars during the last construction project and that he was promised Midland Drive would remain partially open during future projects. City staff clarified that the city is leaving Midland Drive open during their projects but that there is utility work happening which will result in parts of the road closing while that machinery is running. The road will be open when work is not going on and the water company is sending all of their crews to get the project done as quickly as possible in order to minimize disruption.
Councilmembers Stiens, Walters, Kemmling, and Gillette also said their farewells as the new councilmembers will be sworn in at the December 8 meeting!
Additionally, the Council considered the following:
Passed consent agenda (unanimous)
Approved 2026 Federal & State Legislative Priorities (unanimous)
Approved updates to fire code and building ordinances (unanimous)
Ratified semimonthly claims (unanimous)
