The governing body discussed another townhome development at last night’s meeting. This is a mixed-residential neighborhood, mostly duplexes with a few single family homes, and is within the Hickok-Zarah development district. Councilmember Knappen complimented the amount of parking and the effort to preserve existing trees. Councilmember Gillette liked that each house had two-car garages. Councilmember Whitted appreciated the additional diverse housing types and that each unit has basements (for safety purposes.) Councilmember Kemmling asked about the density and liked that it was less dense than the surrounding townhome developments. The development passed unanimously.
Additionally, the Council considered the following:
Passed consent agenda (unanimous)
Approved slate of appointments to various boards and commissions (unanimous)
Approved rezoning for YVA Family Estate (unanimous)
Approved final plans and authorized staff to bid for the McAnany Drive - Nieman to Lucille Street Improvement Project (unanimous)
Adopted a resolution for the closure of Frisbee Road near the 4800 block (6-1, Gillette in dissent)
Awarded contract for the 2025 Storm Sewer Video Inspection Project (unanimous)
Approved Final Plans and authorizing Staff to bid for the Goddard Street and Shawnee Mission Parkway & 61st Street and Melrose Lane CMP Replacement Projects (unanimous)
Considered bids and awarded the contract for the 5900 Monticello Emergency Stormwater Pipe Repair Project (unanimous)
Approved Professional Engineering Services Agreement with BG Consultants for inspection and testing services to the Monticello East and 51st Place and Mill Valley High School CMP Replacement Projects. (unanimous)
Approved Final Change Order for the 65th Street and Lackman Road CMP Replacement Project (unanimous)
Accepted 2026 funding from Johnson County Stormwater Management Program for the Stormwater Pipe Renewal Projects (unanimous)
Acquired right-of-way and easements for the Midland Drive Project - I-435 to Shawnee Mission Parkway (unanimous)
Amended Chapter 2.46 of the Shawnee Municipal Code to update the Shawnee Downtown Partnership standing members (unanimous)
Ratified semimonthly claims (unanimous)
At Council Committee, staff heard budget presentations from each department, which are purely informational. City staff are not proposing any new staff positions or programs for 2026 and there was no meaningful discussion outside of routine clarifying questions.
